‘A very business-friendly community’ New businesses open in Bryan-College Station

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – New businesses are opening their doors across Bryan and College Station, despite businesses like Solt and Hurricane Harry’s announcing closures.

One of those businesses is The Little Gym, a place for children to get active.

“The Little Gym is non-competitive gymnastics. We start kids out from four months, as early as four months old, and go until they turn 12,” owner Nathan Barrett said.

The Little Gym is one of many businesses that have recently opened in Aggieland, and it’s not the last.

REI held its grand opening last month, and a boba tea shop called Bunny Bites is set to open in December.

Local business expert Royce Hickman said the grand opening of businesses both large and small sends an important message about the community.

“We’ve made it as best we can a very business-friendly community. So, someone who’s interested in getting into business for themselves and making an investment in the community and creating jobs, we’re there to help them,” he said.

For Barrett, it’s a chance to enrich the community he has deep ties to.

“I was born and raised here in Bryan-College Station. I have a lot of deep ties to the community. We want to be a safe spot for kids to come in, in just a really safe and loving environment,” he added.

In an area with a heavy focus in education and healthcare fields, a strong small business network works to offer more for the area.

“Most of our businesses are small businesses and I think the fact that we’re a growing community provides opportunities for people that are looking to get into business,” Hickman added.

As for grand re-openings, KinderHill Brew Lab provided an update on its plans to move into a new location.

The new location on 31st Street is set to open in early 2025.

The brewery announced on social media that The Wild Garlic, which served pizza at the original KinderHill location, will no longer be joining KinderHill in its new phase.

Instead, KinderHill said Bryan-College Station will be getting the first Detroit-style pizza in the area. However, this change has put some other plans, like expanding the brewhouse, on hold.

Despite this, the local business said they‘re excited for what’s ahead.
