AAA Expecting Record Travel Numbers For Independence Day

Published

on

AAA is projecting Independence Day travelers will set new records both nationwide and in the West North Central Region, which includes Iowa and Nebraska.  Nearly 71 million people around the U.S. are expected to travel 50 miles or more away from home. Over five million of those will be from the West North Central Region according to AAA Nebraska spokesman Brian Ortner.

He says regionally over 5 million people are expected to hit the road with 4.3 million traveling by car and over 200,000 by air.  Another 543,000 will travel by other means, including busses, trains and cruise ships.

Ortner says gas prices will be cheaper this year. “If we look at Independence Day last year, the state average in Nebraska was $3.33 a gallon for regular gas.  Our average is $3.15 a gallon today across the state, which is a great thing.”

AAA’s Independence Day travel forecast measures trips of 50 miles or more during a 9-day period from Saturday, June 29 to Sunday, July 7.  Click here for additional details.
