AAA PREDICTS HEAVY TRAVEL FOR UPCOMING HOLIDAY
Many are preparing to head out for the Christmas holiday, and Triple A is predicting over 119 million people nationwide will travel at least 50 miles from home between December 21st and January 1st. That narrowly surpasses a record set in 2019.
Across the Mid-Atlantic region, which includes Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, about 12.1 million people are expected to travel by car, while another 934,000 will fly to their destination. The remaining 424,000 will take another form of transportation like bus or train. Travel experts say that with Christmas falling mid-week this year, the weekends before and after the Christmas holiday are expected to be very busy, with the busiest travel day expected to be Sunday, December 22nd. Afternoons will be the busiest times of the day for travelling, so AAA advises that you get a head start by travelling in the morning if possible and packing a bit of extra patience with you.
If you are driving, AAA asks that you follow posted speed limits, drive when you are alert and refreshed, and in a work zone or near an accident scene, slow down and move over.
