AAA Texas: Gas Prices Up Slightly Following Busy Holiday Travel Period
WACO, Texas (KWTX) -According to AAA Texas, the average price of regular unleaded fuel increased slightly following the busy holiday travel period.
The current average of $2.66 per gallon is up 3 cents compared to last year.
The Metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas shows El Paso area drivers paying the most at $2.94 a gallon while drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $2.41 a gallon.
Waco area drivers are seeing gas prices averaging 2.49 a gallon with the price 13 cents per gallon lower than the same time last year and prices the same as a week ago.
Drivers in the Waco area can find gas for about $2.14 per gallon of regular unleaded with the best price being Valero & Circle K’s located at 6400 Woodway Dr. and 335 W.
Other gas stations across the Waco area are around$2.24 a gallon of regular unleaded gas, according to GasBuddy.com.
The national price per gallon of regular unleaded gas is currently at $3.07, which is .03 cents per gallon lower than last week.
“Gas price averages have increased in recent days due to a busy year-end holiday travel period,” stated Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Now that the holidays are behind us and many parts of the nation are facing colder temperatures, demand for fuel will likely decrease and gas price averages should follow.”
More than 100 million Americans took road trips of 50 or more miles, that lead to the uptick in gas prices across Texas and most of the country.
Historically, fuel price averages decline as in January with the trend to resume later this month.
Price fluctuations remain a possibility and uncertainty of gas prices to start the year.
