Academy Sports + Outdoors to open Bloomington location – Inside INdiana Business

Texas-based Academy Sports + Outdoors said Tuesday that it plans to open its seventh Indiana location in Bloomington. The new store is one of nine new locations the retailer is set to open this fall after opening three more earlier this year.

The new store will be located at the former Marsh Supermarket at 123 South Kingston Drive in Bloomington, near the intersection of State Road 46 and East 3rd Street.

Academy did not provide a specific date for the location’s opening.

Academy Sports + Outdoors specializes in apparel, footwear, sports and camping equipment, hunting and fishing gear, and outdoor cooking. The retailer sells national brands, including Nike, Adidas, L.L.Bean, Carhartt, and Yeti.

The retailer’s first Indiana stores opened in Terre Haute and Evansville in 2014 and 2015, respectively. A Jeffersonville store opened in 2022, and Academy added locations in Avon, Westfield and West Lafayette in 2023. The IBJ previously reported a sixth location opened in Greenwood earlier this year.

Academy did not specify how many jobs would be added in Bloomington. However, the Greenwood location opened with 60 people.
