ABOUT OUR HONOREE

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor the late Carl Weathers with the second Sports Entertainment Walk of Fame star,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “Carl left an indelible mark on the worlds of sports and entertainment, and it is our honor to immortalize his legacy on our iconic sidewalk. We are happy to know that Weathers was actively involved in preparing to receive his star before his passing, and that he was very proud to be recognized with this prestigious honor,” added Martinez.

Carl Weathers will always remain an icon of film and television. For more than fifty years, the feature films in which he appeared have grossed well over one billion dollars in box-office revenue worldwide. They include the first four Rocky films, Predator, Action Jackson, and Happy Gilmore. Television appearances in Arrested Development, where he played a version of himself, and most recently as the powerful “Greef Karga” in The Mandalorian, garnering an Emmy nomination for acting, have become cult favorites.

Weathers’ artistry expanded to directing, from a critically acclaimed production of the stage play Danny and The Deep Blue Sea, to television, including The Mandalorian, FBI, Chicago Med, Hawaii 5.0, and Law & Order.  At the time of his passing in 2024, as a prolific writer, Weathers had been crafting and developing multiple projects that he was also slated to produce and direct, many of which are currently in the process of being produced. He has voiced many memorable characters, including “Combat Carl” for the Toy Story Franchise.

Prior to his meteoric rise to stardom, Weathers, a gifted and natural athlete, played professional football in both the NFL and CFL, with the Oakland Raiders and the B.C. Lions, respectively.

Originally from New Orleans, Weathers earned a B.A. in Theatre Arts from San Diego State University.  Further theatre study at San Francisco State University set the stage for the launch of his acting career., He studied at Hugh Zetland Acting and Charles Conrad Studios.

Never one to deny his passions, Weathers became a cattle rancher on Whidbey Island in Washington State at his “Heaven on Earth Ranch,” and won numerous awards around the country, having personally developed and shown the cattle himself.

In June, 2024, The Directors Guild Foundation (DGF) paid tribute its esteemed DGA member and DGF officer Carl Weathers by renaming their premier annual fundraising event in his honor. Going forward, the Tournament will be officially known as the Directors Guild Foundation Carl Weathers Memorial Golf Tournament.

During his nearly six-decade career, Weathers supported many organizations, dedicating his time and passion by giving back to the industry he deeply loved.  He was especially active as a member of the Directors Guild of America, serving on many committees for the prestigious organization, and a board member of Women in Film.  He donated generously to his alma maters, including in his hometown in Louisiana and in his adopted hometown, Los Angeles.  Weathers was notably most proud of mentoring acting students of all ages in his Master Classes at z/a studio in Los Angeles where he shared his vast knowledge and experience as an actor, director, writer and artist.
