Afternoon travel update
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -Afternoon travel is looking fine as the long holiday weekend winds down. As of 1:30, wet snow is still falling in far southern WV. But a look at WV DOH weathercams confirms the web of Interstates sports wet roads and near “speed limit” traffic. Here’s a look at the website with a host of webcams for your viewing pleasure.

Weather-wise, air temperatures are safely above freezing for the rest of the afternoon traveling I-64 (Lexington-Charleston), I-77(north out of Charleston) and I-79. Despite below freezing temperatures along I-64 (Beckley east to the Virginia line) and I-77 south from Beckley to Bluefield, solar energy from the sun penetrating clouds and DOH having salted roads/bridges where needed…. suggests travel is free of ice and snow.
As you view the DOH traffic cam of your choice, you will notice snow on the grass along the roads. The afternoon melting will turn to refreezing starting an hour before dusk. So college students heading back to school, some patches of ice will be possible on side roads as the sun sets.
