Airline opens crew base at CVG; creates 240 jobs with million in wage impact

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Frontier Airlines has opened a new crew base at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

The base is expected to employ 80 pilots and 160 flight attendants within its first year of operation. Combined with maintenance and airport positions, Frontier is projected to generate nearly $27 million annually in local wages, per a news release.

Frontier, which is headquartered in Denver, is the fastest growing domestic airline at CVG, serving 20 destinations. That includes several new nonstop routes launched in May.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of this new crew base at CVG, which will help support our growing operations here and bring quality jobs to the Cincinnati area,” said Barry Biffle, CEO, Frontier Airlines, in the release. “Our expanding route map from CVG is providing even more opportunity for area consumers to take advantage of our ultra-low cost flights, whether traveling for business or leisure.”

“Frontier Airlines laid the foundation for low-cost carriers at CVG more than a decade ago, and the opening of the crew base brings more options for our passengers,” said Candace McGraw, CEO, CVG.

Frontier celebrated its 11-year anniversary at CVG earlier this month. Since its arrival the airport has added low-cost carriers Allegiant, Southwest, Sun Country and Breeze.
