Alabama company’s $5.2 million expansion to create 50 new jobs

A south Alabama cold storage provider has announced a $5.2 million expansion slated to create about 50 jobs.

Dothan Warehouse announced today it will add 120,000 square feet of temperature-controlled storage space to the Houston County facility.

The expansion will provide 40,000 square feet of space to store products needing temperature levels at 35 degrees, and 80,0000 square feet at 63 degrees. In all, the project will give the company space for 10,000 pallets and allow it to focus on areas such as food, medical, health and beauty products, and foods with medicinal benefits.

It will also allow Dothan Warehouse to align with The British Retail Consortium Global Standard for Food Safety, a quality code used by suppliers in more than 100 countries.

The company said, following the expansion, it expects to ship out up to 500,000 parcel shipments each month, by the end of 2026.

“We have been focused, monitoring market conditions and determined there is more demand for temperature-controlled fulfillment space, and we are very excited to continue to grow,” Dothan Warehouse President Turner Jones said.

In a statement, Gov. Kay Ivey said the expansion “not only strengthens Alabama’s logistics capabilities, but also adds quality jobs for our hardworking citizens in Dothan and beyond.”

Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair said the project is another win for Alabama in the logistics and supply chain sectors.

“This project’s focus on food safety and temperature-controlled logistics positions Alabama as a leader in the sector, and we’re proud to support initiatives that bring new jobs and investment into our communities,” she said.
