Alabama couple could set world record for tallest okra plant
A Mobile couple could soon set a world record and it’s because of their enormous okra plant.
According to an interview with Fox10 News, Terry and Candace Stevens first started growing okra in March. However, they did not anticipate the growth of one of the plants.
A crew from Byrd Surveying came and measured the couple’s okra plant and said that it was 16 feet 10 inches. The current Guinness World Record holder for the tallest okra plant is Jack Reno Sweeney of New Orleans.
In 2022 his plant was measured at 16 feet four inches.
For Terry and Candace having their plant recognized as the tallest will come down to Guinness World Record reviewing proof. According to Kylie Galloway, Senior PR Executive for Guinness Americas, Terry and Candace have already submitted an application to be reviewed.
“We’ve received an application and are looking forward to receiving evidence to review,” Galloway said. “Applying is free and once someone applies, our amazing team of record specialists send the official guidelines (aka the rules) and let them know what evidence (aka proof) is needed. We review everything within 12-15 weeks and let them know if they’ve made history!”
Despite its current height the okra plant is still continuing to grow and Terry told Fox10 they intend to let the plant keep growing.
“We’re going to continue letting grow and pick okra ya know,” Terry said.
