Alabama has a thriving business culture, according to a study

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – A new study done by CNBC claims Alabama is one of the best states at recruiting businesses.

Bevin Bright is a business owner that can corroborate that claim.

Bright is the owner of Sweet and Sassy in Dothan, a one stop bakery and boutique shop.

“We offer cake, decorated cakes, poundcakes, cupcakes and all different kinds of chocolates,” Bright said.

Sweet and Sassy has been around for about 15 years, seeing plenty of ups and downs. Bright bought Sweet and Sassy a year ago, with an abundance of customers.

“I just hope that they continue to come in and show the love and support they have been giving us,” Bevin explained.

State Representative Paul Lee (R-Dothan) believes Bright’s success story is common in Alabama these days.

“I think one of the assets that we have is obviously is our people,” Lee said.

Lee led the effort to improve the state’s business climate, as he and other lawmakers approved business incentives.

“Business comes in here and they need certain type of labor with certain type of experience. There is some way that we are able to find the training to make sure that they can fulfill those jobs with trained people,” Lee explained.

With that workforce comes people earning regular paychecks and with a few dollars to indulge themselves, like taking a trip to Sweet and Sassy.

The CNBC study considered several factors, including workforce education.

Despite the study showing Alabama’s business climate improving, the state is only ranked 20th nationwide.
