Alibaba’s online shopping app allows users to virtually experience Xiaomi SU7 in Apple Vision Pro

The Taobao App for Vision Pro has seen a V 2.0 update, allowing the Alibaba-owned online shopping app to start enabling users to virtually experience Xiaomi’s (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) SU7 electric vehicle (EV) with the device.

Taobao announced the update in a press release today, saying it has teamed up with Xiaomi to launch a virtual test drive experience for the SU7 on the Vision Pro.

Users can already book a Xiaomi SU7 experience on the Vision Pro homepage of the Taobao App, and Taobao will also bring users a new “test drive at home” experience in the future, the Alibaba unit said.

Utilizing spatial computing power, Taobao App for Vision Pro integrates offline immersive shopping experience and online shopping efficiency, and is the beginning of online shopping from 2D to 3D, said Zhao Kun, Taobao’s XR (Extended Reality) business head.

Apple began selling the Vision Pro in the US on February 2. Pre-orders for the device began in China on June 14, with a starting price of RMB 29,999 yuan ($4,130). Its official launch in China will be on June 28.

Xiaomi officially launched the SU7 electric sedan, its first EV model, on March 28 this year.

The SU7 is offered in three versions — standard, Pro, and Max — with starting prices of RMB 215,900, RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively.

Xiaomi is reportedly working on a second model, an SUV (sport utility vehicle), spy shots of which began circulating on Chinese social media earlier this month.

On April 23, local media outlet 36kr reported that Xiaomi’s second model will be an all-electric SUV, which will be launched in 2025 and will help Xiaomi EV expand its presence in the mainstream market.

Xiaomi’s third model is cost-sensitive and is initially positioned in the RMB 150,000 class, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

Xiaomi delivered paid 8,646 SU7 series cars in May, with cumulative deliveries reaching 15,764 units in 2024, Xiaomi said in a June 2 Hong Kong stock exchange announcement.
