HILLTOWN TWP., Pa. – An Allentown man is being accused of stealing more than $20,000 in business checks from the mail.
Pennsylvania State Police arrested Edison Pena-Roman on Oct. 12, according to a news release from the Hilltown Police Department.
In February 2024, a Hilltown Township business reported that a business check was stolen out of the mail system and deposited into a bank account of an unknown individual, township police said.
Through investigation it was found that Pena-Roman was behind the theft, according to the news release.
Police say Pena-Roman worked for a transportation company in Northampton County that delivered mail to and from various post offices. While he worked for the company Pena-Roman was responsible for stealing numerous business checks from the mail, Hilltown Township police said.
Pena-Roman would then deposit the checks into his own bank account through his mobile banking application or at a local Allentown branch through the ATM, according to the news release.
Authorities say Pena-Roman stole $22,295.67 in funds from business located throughout Bucks, Lehigh, Montgomery, and Northampton counties.
The Hilltown Township Police Department took custody of Pena-Roman on Oct. 15.
Pena-Roman was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Armitage and bail was set at 10% of $20,000. Pena-Roman was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
