Amarillo Chapter, Texas Association of Sports Officials host clinic for referees

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Chapter Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) hosted a clinic for referees today who are looking to be certified to ref high school football this upcoming season or in the future.

Amarillo Chapter president, Esrael Silva said, “It’s a requirement for us to certify per UIL… and we certify to be able to officiate varsity contest, varsity football contests.”

Silva also talked about the struggles of getting more and more people to come to the clinics year after year.

“I think at the end of the day, it is very difficult right now in today’s day and age,” he said. “We’re not sure if it’s a little bit of people not wanting to put the time and effort into it, and/or they don’t like getting yelled at, and I think it’s a little bit of both.
