Amazon data center creating jobs in St Joseph County
The largest capital investment in Indiana’s history will be coming to St. Joseph County Indiana.
With this investment will come 1,000 jobs.
Mike Berman, with Amazon’s Economic and Workforce Development says Monday’s showcase is focusing on bringing local work to this data center.
This is the largest capital investment in Indiana’s history and it’s in St. Joseph County Indiana. And with this investment will come 1,000 jobs.
“We know that there is huge opportunity and huge demand for talent in this region that is being driven by this massive investment. We are hoping, and this is about working with local community to help them understand what kind of talent demands that we have.”, says Berman.
Employees will be using the latest technology in the electrical and mechanical world to run a data center.
Those in attendance on Monday got a chance to see exactly how this would come together.
“Over here is kind of a miniature version of a data center, We have some on the left hand side. We have a tiny little air conditioner, which is a mini version of what you would see in a data center and in the middle is a gear that we use to maintain the 24/7.”, says Berman.
These new jobs will need a building and local opportunities within the trades have helped bring this building to where it is today.
We were able to speak with a Central Midwest Region of Carpenters Representative, Scott Calentine.
“First and foremost, we support all of the work that is going on in New Carlisle, We probably have 200 or so carpenters out there working on that project right now, and we are real excited about all of the development coming to this area.”, says Calentine.
This data center will bring 1,000 jobs to the site itself, but Berman says as this data center grows, it will require more jobs from electrical, to mechanical, to IT, and many other sectors.
