Amazon to host informational, match-making session for local business owners

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — Amazon’s supplier diversity team will be in Shreveport on Wednesday (April 24) to host an informational and match-making session for local business owners.

Local businesspeople will be able to plug in with Amazon and be a resource to the Amazon facility and network.

Contracts with Amazon are not guaranteed. However, if local business owners do not get the opportunity to connect with Amazon in Caddo Parish, according to city leaders, there are other potential opportunities at different Amazon sites.

The Elevate Your Business with Amazon session will be held from 7:45 a.m. until just after noon Wednesday at Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College, 2010 N. Market St. in Shreveport.

Topics of discussion will include an introduction to Amazon, an overview of Amazon’s procurement process and a deep dive into Amazon category contracting opportunities.

“They’ll be looking for folks who have experience in HVAC, grass cutting, medical supplies, shipping supplies,” Jackson said. “They’ll be looking for folks with pallet services,” District 2 state Rep. Steven Jackson said.

“Even if you don’t get an opportunity at this particular site, there may be opportunities. From what we’re told, there may be other opportunities at other Amazon sites that they may be able to plug you into.”

A second Amazon facility is coming to Caddo Parish and will be located at the Shreve Park Industrial Campus off Louisiana Highway 3132. It will be an Amazon last-mile facility, where customers will receive their orders within the same day or by the next day.

Jackson, who was part of the process to bring Amazon’s first location to Shreveport, said the second location will bring even more jobs and economic development to the area.
