AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 6-Core “Zen 5” Desktop CPU Performance Leaks Out Too, Clocks Up To 5.5 GHz & 14% Faster Than 7600X

AMD’s Ryzen 5 9600X 6-Core “Zen 5” Desktop CPU has leaked too with an impressive 5.5 GHz clock speed & 14% increase in performance versus 7600X.

AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 6-Core Entry-Level Zen 5 Desktop CPU Retains Faster Single-Core Performance Versus Intel Core i9-14900K

The AMD Ryzen 5 9600X “100-000001405” CPU features 6 cores and 12 threads. This chip has a base clock of 3.9 GHz maximum boost clock of up to 5.40 GHz and packs 38 MB cache and the same 65W TDP. Only the AMD Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 CPUs see a clock bump over their predecessor while the Ryzen 9 chips retain the same clock speeds.

The AMD Ryzen 5 9600X sees a 100 MHz boost clock improvement over its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7600X but comes with a lower base clock of -800 MHz. In this particular benchmark, the chip was seen running at up to 5.5 GHz clock speeds which is a 100 MHz improvement over its official boost clocks and points out the use of PBO tuning. The chip was equipped on an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E HERO motherboard with 32 GB of DDR5-6000 memory. The same configuration has been used to test the Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 7 9700X.

In terms of performance, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 6-Core “Zen 5” Desktop CPU scored 3284 points in the single-core and 14,594 points in the multi-core tests at Geekbench 6. This is 15% faster CPU performance in single-core and a 14% uplift in multi-core scores which is very decent given that this is another 65W chip that we are looking at. The single-core score once again sits ahead of the Intel Core i9-14900KS in this particular benchmark.

In terms of multi-threaded score, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X comes out almost on par with the Ryzen 7 7700 which is a Zen 4 chip with 8-cores running at a similar 65W TDP. The chip is faster than the standard Core i5-14600 but the unlocked configuration, the Core i5-14600K, offers a 9% uplift in the multi-threaded tests. The unlocked Core i5 also runs at a much higher TDP of 125W by default (PL1).

  • Ryzen 5 9600X vs Ryzen 5 7600X (Single-Core): +15%
  • Ryzen 5 9600X vs Ryzen 5 7600X (Multi-Core): +14%

For a 6-core CPU, this is a very strong result, especially the single-core performance which should lead to some nice performance uplifts in games. Once again, the AMD Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” Desktop CPUs including the Ryzen 7 9700X 8-Core hit retail shelves later this month on the AM5 platform so stay tuned for some action.
