American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United, and Southwest Ensure Smooth Travel During Thanksgiving Holiday with 232,000 Flights Across the United States – Travel And Tour World

Saturday, November 30, 2024

The 2024 Thanksgiving holiday travel season has been a remarkable success for the U.S. airline industry, with several major carriers reporting record-breaking flight volumes and impressive operational performance.

According to data released by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the number of flights across the United States between November 24th and 28th, 2024, reached over 232,000, setting a new Thanksgiving travel record. On Tuesday, November 28th, the agency reported more than 52,000 flights carrying passengers, the highest single-day total ever recorded.

Despite the unprecedented demand, the major U.S. airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines, were able to maintain exceptional operational efficiency, with cancellation rates limited to just 0.3% and delays affecting only 1.2% of flights – both record lows for the Thanksgiving travel period.

American Airlines, the world’s largest airline by fleet size and passenger traffic, reported that it operated more than 32,000 flights during the Thanksgiving travel period, a new record for the carrier.

Delta Air Lines, another industry giant, experienced similar success, with more than 5,700 flights on the busiest travel day, November 28th.

United Airlines, the third-largest U.S. carrier, also reported record-breaking Thanksgiving travel numbers, with more than 28,000 flights operated during the holiday period.

Southwest Airlines, the largest domestic carrier in the U.S., was also a standout performer, with more than 24,000 flights operated during the Thanksgiving travel period.

The FAA’s data also revealed that the high volume of flights did not come at the expense of safety or reliability. The agency reported that cancellation rates were limited to just 0.3% during the Thanksgiving travel period, a remarkable achievement given the scale of operations. Similarly, delays affected only 1.2% of flights, another record low for the holiday season.

The agency has pledged to maintain its close collaboration with the airlines to ensure the continued safety and efficiency of the nation’s airspace.

The remarkable performance of the U.S. airline industry during the 2024 Thanksgiving travel season is a testament to the industry’s resilience, innovation, and dedication to customer service. As the holiday travel period continues, the major carriers are poised to build on their successes and provide an even more seamless and enjoyable experience for the millions of passengers who will take to the skies in the coming weeks.
