America’s Best Fitness & Wellness Retreats 2025
America’s Best Fitness &
Wellness Retreats 2025
Modern living often leaves little room for self-care, with stress, sedentary routines and hectic schedules taking a toll on overall well-being. According to the American Psychiatric Association, 43 percent of adults say “they feel more anxious than they did the previous year.” As people increasingly try to prioritize their physical fitness and mental health, retreats offering holistic programs have become sought-after sanctuaries for renewal and transformation.
To spotlight the destinations redefining self-care, Newsweek and Statista are proud to present America’s Best Fitness & Wellness Retreats 2025. Our inaugural list honors 100 outstanding retreats a cross the country.
The sanctuaries featured on this list provide tailored environments where guests can focus on their health goals through activities like yoga, meditation, massages, personal training, nutrition programs, mental coaching and hiking tours.
Facilities were evaluated based on rigorous methodology, including a survey where professionals with knowledge about fitness and wellness retreats were asked to recommend notable facilities. The study also utilized data collection from social media sites and other web sources, a survey to assess amenities and programs, website traffic to measure user engagement and Google reviews.
The list includes Aman in New York City; Canyon Ranch in Woodside, California; Doe Bay Resort and Retreat in Olga, Washington; and Movara Fitness Resort in Ivins, Utah.
Whether you’re seeking an energizing fitness regimen, restorative wellness practices or both, we hope this guide is a valuable resource for finding a retreat that helps you feel better and stronger.

METHODOLOGY
Modern lifestyles, marked by high stress and sedentary routines, drive people to seek stress relief and focus on their well-being. Fitness & wellness retreats offer tailored environments with holistic programs for physical fitness, nutrition, and mental well-being, including multi-day stays.
For those aspiring to maintain a healthy lifestyle and seeking guidance on retreats, Statista and Newsweek have partnered for the first time to award the 100 leading fitness & wellness retreats in the U.S. The list includes facilities that offer fitness, wellness, and/or nutrition programs, along with recreational activities that support both physical and mental health.
To create the list, a score was calculated for each fitness & wellness retreat included in the analysis.
The list is based on four data sources:
• National survey: accounts for 40 percent of the total score.
• Reputation analysis: accounts for 25 percent of the total score.
• Website traffic: accounts for 25 percent of the total score.
• Client satisfaction: accounts for 10 percent of the total score.
Additionally, Newsweek and Statista conducted a voluntary facility survey to account for the amenities and programs offered at the establishments. Fitness & wellness retreats that participated in the facility survey are highlighted in the result tables.
National survey – Retreat recommendations from peers
40 percent of the total score is based on the results from a national online survey conducted by Newsweek and Statista, in which professionals with knowledge about fitness & wellness retreats were asked to recommend leading fitness & wellness retreats in the U.S. Professionals were invited to complete the survey on Newsweek.com between September to October 2024. Recommendations were weighted based on the order in which they were given, with the first recommendation receiving the highest weight. A score was assigned to each retreat based on the weighted number of recommendations.
Reputation analysis
In the service sector, including fitness & wellness retreats, a positive client reputation plays a vital role. It builds trust, enthusiasm, and loyalty, encouraging clients to choose establishments that are tailored to meet their specific needs and support their journey towards long-term health and well-being.
To assess the online reputation of each retreat, a comprehensive social listening approach was employed. Social listening collects and categorizes data on a retreat’s online reputation by tracking social media channels and web sources. Findings indicate the attractiveness of a fitness & wellness retreat based on direct information linked to specific facilities.
Measurement description
Relevant aspects and search terms for fitness & wellness retreats (e.g., fitness, wellness, personal growth, meditation, nutritional coaching) were defined and tested.
Over a multiple month period, news sites, blogs, and social media networks were tracked comprehensively for these terms.
Identified posts and articles were highlighted and categorized through algorithm-based text analysis as having positive, neutral, or negative sentiment. This data allows for evaluation of the proportion of positive content.
Additionally, factors such as document volume per facility, post virality, and reach (number of linkages, shares, and estimated readership) contributed to the evaluation.
Website traffic
Traffic data growth from company websites was analyzed to assess user engagement and interest with the respective facility.
Facility survey
From September to October 2024, Statista and Newsweek conducted a national online facility survey to determine the amenities and programs offered at fitness & wellness retreats.
The survey aimed to evaluate the range of offerings in fitness, nutrition, mental health, wellness programs, and recreational activities. An extensive selection provides guidance to individuals seeking to maintain a health-conscious lifestyle and find relief from everyday stress. Additionally, the survey assessed how each retreat is designed to ensure the most enjoyable and fulfilling stay possible.
Facilities that participated in the facility survey are highlighted in the result tables.
The next edition of the project will aim to incorporate a facility survey score directly within the scoring model.
Future survey cycles will be announced on Newsweek.com. Pre-registration is available here.
