Amtrak Is Having a BOGO Sale on Overnight Trips — When to Book

Amtrak is making a fall rail trip even sweeter by allowing travelers who book a private Roomette to bring someone along with them for free.

The sale, which must be booked by Oct. 31, is available for travel on most routes from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, Amtrak shared with Travel + Leisure. Travelers can book online or by entering the promo code “C104” in the Amtrak app.

“Watching spectacular scenery go by while relaxing in a private Roomette offers an exceptional guest experience that can’t be replicated in the sky or on the road,” Amtrak’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Eliot Hamlisch said in a statement shared with T+L. “There’s a better way to travel and we are proud to provide it on Amtrak. Our generous Roomette Free Companion Flash Sale creates opportunities for guests to take trips together, making memories of a lifetime.”

With this BOGO Roomette sale, two passengers can travel together between New Orleans and Memphis starting at just $201 each way, or travel between Chicago and Dallas starting at just $496 each way. Head from New York City all the way to Chicago starting at just $465 each way, or explore the West Coast with a private room starting at just $481 each way between Los Angeles and Portland.

The sale is available on all of Amtrak’s long distance trains except the southbound Auto Train.

The promotion, however, is not available during certain blackout dates from Nov. 22 to Nov. 26, from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, from Dec. 20 to Dec. 23, and from Dec. 26 to Jan. 4, 2025.

Each Roomette features a pair of seats that transform into upper and lower bunk beds to sleep complete with pillows, towels, and linens, and a dedicated first class attendant. Travelers who book these private rooms also receive complimentary meals onboard, priority boarding, and complimentary lounge access at major stations.

Travelers who book a private room can also take advantage of no-fee changes.

The sale comes as Amtrak told T+L it was anticipating high demand for the Thanksgiving holiday period. To accommodate that demand, the company said it would add extra cars to both its Northeast Regional and Midwest trains and increase the frequency of trains from Nov. 25 through Dec. 2 between several popular cities on the East Coast, including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston.

Hamlisch said the rail company “provides guests the opportunity to reach holiday gatherings in comfort, relaxed and far removed from the stress of congested highways and crowded airports.”
