Anchorage Small Business Saturday “embodies that spirit of community”
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – On Small Business Saturday, locally owned shops and restaurants in Anchorage were packed.
Don’t be fooled by the name; Small businesses are big business in Alaska. Over half of residents are employed by Alaskan-owned businesses.
Mayor Suzanne LaFrance spent the day touring shops in downtown Anchorage. She says Small Business Saturday isn’t just about shopping; It’s about neighbors coming together to support one another.
“One of the things I love about living here is just that spirit of helping each other.” She said, “Small Business Saturday really embodies that spirit of community.”
According to city officials, this is one of the busiest Small Business Saturdays the community has seen.
Ozarks is an eclectic gift shop in midtown, offering a variety of new items and antiques.
Employee MacKenzie Barnhart said Small Business Saturday is an opportunity for local businesses to build relationships with their customers.
“We’re able to show our support and our appreciation for them. It really keeps the community tight.” She said, “We are all truly like one big family in Alaska.”
