Andre Agassi replaces John McEnroe as world captain for 2025 Laver Cup
Andre Agassi will captain the “World” team at the 2025 Laver Cup and beyond, replacing compatriot John McEnroe.
Agassi, who won eight Grand Slam titles and one Olympic gold medal, will face off against a new, to-be-determined captain for Team Europe. Bjorn Borg, current captain and McEnroe’s longtime nemesis on the court, is also relinquishing the role after seven years.
“You’re there with the team, your peers, guys you respect, and everybody has a responsibility,” Agassi said.
“For me the key will be understanding and managing the players’ needs throughout the year and really getting to know them so that I can select the matchups to give us the best chance to get wins on the board.”

The Laver Cup is where Roger Federer retired from tennis in 2022, memorably sobbing at the side of the court after partnering Rafael Nadal for Europe in the doubles stage of the tournament.
Although it is an ATP Tour event, and three players for each team are selected based on their ranking, it does not carry point towards those rankings. The other three players in each team are so-called “captain’s picks.”
This year’s tournament is being held in Berlin from 20 – 22 September, a fortnight after the end of the US Open.
