Andrew Thau Exits As Co-Head of UTA Sports Amid Agency Cuts
EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Thau is leaving UTA after 17 years. A longtime COO of the agency, he most recently served as the Co-Head of UTA Sports. His departure was announced in an internal memo today, a copy of which was obtained by Deadline from sources.
Thau served as COO of UTA from 2007, when he joined the agency, until this past June when Bob Roback was name to the post. At the time, Thau was to focus solely on his role as co-head of UTA Sports, which he took on last year in addition to his COO responsibilities. Rich Paul, CEO of KLUTCH Sports Group, in which UTA owns a stake, will continue to lead the agency’s efforts in the sports space.
As Deadline reported exclusive yesterday, UTA has begun the end-of-year process of letting go a number of agents as contracts come up for renewal. Names have started to emerge, including talent agent Jonathan Weinstein, who has been at UTA for his entire 17-year career to date and is rumored to be transitioning to management, and Joe LaBracio, who has an extensive resume as an unscripted agent as well as executive and producer.
Thau will remain at UTA until the end of the year to help with the transition and will continue to consult for the agency through part of 2025. In addition to his tenure as COO, he also served as general counsel and a managing director at UTA and was the first non-agent board member and partner.
Prior to joining the agency in 2007, Thau was an executive at 20th Century Fox and worked at several technology and entertainment startups.
