Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2 update rolling out to Pixel phones

Google has released the Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2 update for Pixel devices, and testers can now download it starting December 16. Announced through a Reddit post on the official Android Beta Program subreddit, this update brings a bunch of bug fixes and improvements. But what’s really exciting about this release are some new features that weren’t mentioned in the official announcement.

One of the biggest surprises in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2 is the Linux Terminal app, which is now fully functional. This feature was first spotted in the earlier Beta 1 release, but back then, it was buggy and crashed whenever users tried to load a virtual machine. With the Beta 2 update, the app is now working as intended. Testers report that they can download, configure, and run Linux instances using the Android Virtualization Framework. This marks a major step forward for users who want to experiment with Linux right from their Android devices.

Android expert Mishaal Rahman confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the Linux Terminal app is working as expected. Testers have also backed this up, saying they’ve successfully used the app after upgrading to Beta 2. This wasn’t the only feature to surface in the update — notification cooldowns, which many thought would arrive with Android 16, are now functional in Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2. This feature allows users to manage notifications in a more controlled way, potentially reducing distractions.

The Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2 update is now available for a range of Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6, Pixel 7, Pixel 8, and Pixel 9 series, as well as the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. If you’re already enroled in the Android Beta Program, you can get the update over the air. For those who aren’t part of the program, you can still join and start testing the latest features. Just keep in mind that Google mentions it might take up to 24 hours for the update to show up after enroling. If you’re eager to try it right away, you can manually check for the update by heading to Settings > System > System updates on your device.

The Android 15 QPR2 Beta 2 update comes with the build number BP11.241121.010 and varies in size depending on your Pixel model. Some updates are only a few hundred megabytes, while others can go up to a few gigabytes. Along with the new features, Google has addressed several bugs in this release. For example, issues that prevented glucose sensor devices from connecting have been resolved, as well as bugs that caused delays while placing calls.

Other fixes include improvements to Bluetooth stability, especially for LE Audio and hearing aid compatibility, and a fix for the “Limit to 80%” battery charging feature that wasn’t working properly before. Pixel Fold users will also be happy to know that a bug causing devices to freeze while unfolded has been fixed. Additionally, null pointer issues that caused random crashes or restarts have been resolved.
