Android 15 QPR2: Do Not Disturb gets big upgrade with Modes

With Android 15 QPR2 Beta 1, Google is overhauling Do Not Disturb with customizable “Modes.” You can “Minimize distractions and take control of your attention with modes for sleep, work, driving, and everything in between.”

In this new system, “Do Not Disturb” exists as one of the Modes. Other existing ones that are carried over include: Bedtime, Game Dashboard, “Google,” and Pixel Stand. You’ll find them in a new high-level Settings app > Modes menu.

The “Create your own mode” process starts by giving it a name and choosing from various icons. You can “Set a schedule” to have it turn on automatically, while there are “Notification filters” like:

  • Allow all notifications
  • People: Messages, Calls
  • Apps: Selected apps, None
  • Alarms & other interruptions: Alarms, Media sounds, Touch sounds, Reminders, Calendar events

Finally, you have “Display settings”:

  • Display options for filtered notifications
  • Grayscale
  • Keep the screen dark
  • Dim the wallpaper
  • Enable dark theme

You can quickly select Modes from Quick Settings. The Do Not Disturb on/off QS Tile is replaced by a “Modes” menu. Multiple can — apparently — be enabled at the same time.

Meanwhile, the icon you picked earlier will appear in the status bars and on your lockscreen.

Expect Modes to launch with Android 15 QPR2 in March.
