Stony Point High School boys basketball coach Antoine Thompson and Cedar Park High School basketball coach Kami Williams were named the Boys and Girls Team Coaches of the Year Wednesday night at the Austin Area High School Sports Awards, presented by Thomas J. Henry Law.

The show was held at the Long Center: Dell Hall and honored more than 250 student-athletes from the Austin area.

The Boys and Girls Team Coaches of the Year were sponsored by USA TODAY Sports.

The other two finalists for the Boys Team Coach of the Year were Westwood tennis coach Travis Dalrympe and Rouse baseball coach Chad Krempin.

The other finalists for Girls Team Coach of the Year were Liberty Hill volleyball coach Marie Bruce and Westlake soccer coach Darci Carruthers.

Under the guidance of Thompson, the Tigers went to the UIL state tournament for the first time in school history. Stony Point won its semifinal and ended the season as the state runners-up.

That state finals loss was only its second of the year as the team finished 38-2 and 14-0 in the district. The two losses were both to state champion Plano East.

Over the past two seasons, Thompson led the Tigers to a 70-4 record.

Stony Point basketball was also a finalist for the Boys Team of the Year.

Williamson knew what it was like as a coach to make it to the biggest stage in Texas high school basketball. She was an assistant coach on the Cedar Park basketball teams that won back-to-back state championships in 2021 and 2022 under former coach Donny Ott.

And in her first year at the helm, WAilliamson took the Timberwolves back to San Antonio.

On the backs of a 27-12 record, the Timberwolves made their third state appearance in four years, advancing to the state semifinal, upsetting district rivals Liberty Hill and Glenn along the way. Not bad for a team that finished in third place in District 25-5A.
