Apple confirms ‘exciting week of announcements’ for Mac starting on Monday – 9to5Mac

While it’s not an event, Apple has officially confirmed that next week will be an “exciting week of announcements” starting on Monday morning. The teaser was posted to social media by Apple’s marketing VP Greg Joswiak.

This announcements are expected to focus on the Mac and Apple’s transition to the M4 chip. Head below for the full details on what’s to come.

There are no other details provided on what form next week’s announcements will take. We’d expect a series of press releases over the course of the week, perhaps with a few accompanying videos. We’ll have to wait and see for sure. Apple has also invited select creators to in-person hands-on events in Los Angeles next week.

Next week is expected to be focused entirely on the Mac, with updates to the iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini on the horizon. All of these new Macs will be powered by the M4 chip, which first made its debut in the iPad Pro back in May.

New MacBook Pro

We’ve already gotten a great look at the base model 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip thanks to supply chain leaks. The new model is expected to start with 16GB of RAM for the first time and include an include three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an upgrade from the three ports on the base M3 model. It’s also expected to have a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, an upgrade compared to the M3 chip’s 8-core CPU design.

The higher-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will also get a spec bump, featuring the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips inside. We aren’t expect any other major changes other than the improved performance courtesy of the faster chips.

New iMac

In addition to the MacBook Pro, Apple is also prepping an upgrade to the 24-inch iMac. Currently, the 24-inch iMac is powered by the M3 chip, and it’s expected to get an upgrade to the M4 chip. The new 24-inch iMac could also feature an upgraded 16GB of RAM and two additional CPU cores, just like the base model M4 MacBook Pro.

New Mac mini

Finally, and perhaps most notably, the Mac mini will also get a dramatic refresh this month. In addition to new configurations with the M4 and M4 Pro chip, the Mac mini is getting is biggest redesign in years.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is prepping a wholly redesigned Mac mini. The biggest change will be a significant size reduction. The new Mac mini will reportedly be “far smaller than its predecessor” and feature a form factor similar to the Apple TV. According to the report, the M4 Mac mini’s overall footprint will be smaller than the current Mac mini, but it could be slightly taller.
