Apple Intelligence release delayed while Galaxy AI hits 200 million devices

Apple’s been a bit late to hop on the AI bandwagon that everyone seems to be jumping on these days. The company only recently unveiled Apple Intelligence, its version of “AI,” and said that the suite of features would be out later this year.

However, a new report suggests that Apple might miss its initial timeline for the Apple Intelligence release, meaning that users will have to wait a bit longer. Meanwhile, Samsung’s Galaxy AI is on track to hit 200 million users this year.

Not all Apple Intelligence features will be available at launch

Apple Intelligence was expected to be released with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September this year. However, Bloomberg reports that the Apple Intelligence release may be delayed by at least one month, with iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 finally bringing these features in October.

Even when it does arrive, all Apple Intelligence features won’t be available initially. Some of these features, such as Siri’s AI capabilities, would be delayed even further and may arrive by the end of this year. Furthermore, all features won’t be available on all iPhones that support iOS 18. Apple Intelligence requires devices with an A17 Pro, so the only two existing models that are compatible are the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

Samsung has been far more rapid in its rollout of Galaxy AI. Within months of the AI suite being announced, it had already been rolled out for more than 100 million devices. The company has done a great job of bringing many of its features to older devices as well. Galaxy AI has been improved with new features that were launched alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 earlier this month. Those features will also come to older devices with One UI 6.1.1.

The company revealed during the Unpacked event that Galaxy AI will be available on 200 million devices by the end of this year. With the new foldables selling well and new high-end tablets due in the coming months, it’s entirely possible that Galaxy AI will hit the 200 million mark quite easily before the end of the year.
