Apple iPhone 16 Launch: Last Minute Leaks Emerge

With Apple’s iPhone 16 launch just days away, last-minute leaks continue to ruin any remaining surprises. The latest spoiler comes in a new report detailing some of the new flagship’s camera capabilities and an update on Apple’s all-new touch-sensitive capture button, which is set to revolutionize how people take photos with their iPhones.

iPhone 16 Pro: Enhanced Video Capabilities

The first piece of news, courtesy of sources close to 9to5Mac, is that the forthcoming iPhone 16 Pro is expected to capture 4K video at up to 120fps. This is double the capture speed of the current iPhone 15 Pro range, which is limited to 60 fps. Doubling the frame rate allows for up to 4x slow-motion effects when capturing at the camera’s highest resolution.

Ensuring the iPhone 16 Pro lives up to its “Pro” moniker, Apple will reportedly enable 4K ProRes video recording to external storage at 120fps. Be sure to check that your external storage is fast enough to keep up, as minimum specs will likely increase from the current limits.

According to the report, Apple has also been experimenting with recording 8K video on the iPhone 16 Pro. Adding 8K video recording would allow Apple to catch up with Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, which already supports the feature. However, the report suspects Apple might hold 8K recording back for the iPhone 17 Pro range, as next year’s model will likely come with a higher-resolution zoom lens.

More details have emerged concerning the iPhone’s new touch-sensitive capture button, which the report claims will be capable of “reproducing different actions depending on how you press or slide it.” Pressing the button once will launch the built-in camera app or a user-selected alternative. A gentle button press will then cause the camera to focus before a harder press takes a photo or starts recording, depending on the selected camera mode.

This news corroborates previous leaks and adds that sliding a finger across the button will enable you to adjust zoom or exposure. This will make it much quicker and easier to perform such adjustments, as you won’t have to lift your finger off the capture button to do so.

All will be revealed at Apple’s “Glowtime” event, scheduled for Monday, September 9, at 10 a.m. PT. The company is expected to announce four iPhone 16 models and at least two new Apple Watches. We’ll also learn more about “Apple Intelligence,” powered by the company’s new A18 Pro chip.
