Apple Is “Evaluating” The Idea Of Making Its Own TV Set, But Its Launch Is Conditional And Depends On The Success Of The Upcoming Smart Home Hub

Apple is getting ready to deeply root itself in the smart home industry by introducing a plethora of products that will work together with HomeKit-compatible devices. It was previously reported that the company is aiming to launch its first smart home-based device in the Spring of next year, a 6-inch iPad-like device mounted on the wall that will control all aspects of the house through integration with accessories. It is now being reported that the company could launch its own Apple-branded TV set.

Apple could launch a dedicated Apple TV set, which will be part of the company’s big home-based push in the industry

This is not the first time the company has thought of making its own TV sets, as the idea was first coined within the company between 2009 and 2011. Well, it appears to be back on the table, but there are certain factors that the company must consider before stepping into making televisions for the masses. The news was shared by analyst Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, briefly stating that the company has been “evaluating” the “idea of making an Apple-branded TV set.”

Apple’s decision to launch its TV a decade ago was capped, all for a good reason, as there were limited reasons to make an in-house television set with no differentiating elements from other products in the industry. Now, the company has expertise and an entire ecosystem of devices working together that can easily carry the weight of a new device.

The analyst did not provide details on the new Apple “TV,” but we can expect certain home-related features if the device makes it out of rumors. It would be able to control various aspects of the HomeKit-compatible devices as well, but it would not be the central hub. This is because the company is working on a dedicated smart home device with a 6-inch square display that will act as the hub.

It is not certain that Apple will release its TV set soon, and the analyst also states that the launch depends on the success of the company’s forthcoming wall-mounted smart home hub. If it is successful, the company will see fit to launch various compatible devices that will act as accessories to the home hub. Henceforth, the launch of the Apple TV set remains conditional on how users perceive the upcoming device. Other than this, there are little to no details on the TV set or what it could look like.
