Apple to switch to OLED displays for all new iPhones from 2025 – report (NASDAQ:AAPL)

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) will reportedly use organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays in all its iPhone models sold in 2025 and thereafter as it looks to move away from liquid crystal displays ((LCDs)).

The change will exclude two Japanese panel suppliers, Japan Display (JDI) and Sharp, from

Smartphone makers are increasingly switching to OLEDs, as they offer sharper and more vivid colors.

JDI and Sharp had a combined share of 70% in iPhone displays about ten years ago, but had supplied LCDs only for the iPhone SE recently, the report added. Both the companies do not mass produce OLED displays for smartphones.

The iPhone-maker has already begun placing orders for OLED displays for the upcoming iPhone SE from China’s BOE Technology and South Korea’s LG Display, Nikkei said.

Apple uses OLEDs for its premium iPhone models, and had first used the panels in the iPhone X.
