Apple working on new Magic Mouse fixing longstanding charging port complaints

Apple is reportedly working on a new version of the Magic Mouse to fix long-standing complaints about the charging port’s position. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has been testing prototypes over the past few months.

In his Power On newsletter, Gurman shared that Apple aims to create a design that “better fits the modern era.” The biggest issue with the current Magic Mouse is that the charging port is located underneath, preventing use while charging.

Since its debut in 2009, the Magic Mouse has only received minor updates. Apple switched from AA batteries to a rechargeable system, added a lighter case, and last month, switched to a USB-C port.

While Apple is working on the new model, Gurman warns that it won’t be released soon. “Don’t expect it in the next 12 to 18 months,” he writes. The current Magic Mouse is nearing the end of its life, and a complete redesign will take time for hardware, software, and engineering development.
