Apple’s MacBook Pro could get a complete redesign for its 20th anniversary, here’s what to expect – Times of India
Apple plans to unveil a completely redesigned MacBook Pro in 2026, pushing back the anticipated refresh from its expected 2025 timeline, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
The next-generation MacBook Pro will feature a thinner chassis and transition to OLED display technology, Gurman reported in his latest Power On newsletter. This delay means the 2025 models will only receive chip upgrades to M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max processors, without significant design changes.
Gurman’s suggests that the postponement is primarily due to challenges related to display technology implementation. The new OLED displays are expected to mirror the technology used in the upcoming M4 iPad Pro lineup.
The 2026 redesign will coincide with the introduction of Apple’s M6 chip family, which Gurman notes will be manufactured using 2-nanometer process technology, promising substantial performance improvements over previous generations.
This timeline represents a departure from Apple’s typical four-year design cycle for the MacBook Pro line. The last major redesign occurred in 2021, when Apple reintroduced MagSafe charging and additional ports while eliminating the Touch Bar.
The interim 2024 MacBook Pro models, announced last month, maintain the current design while introducing M4-series chips. The M4 version retains Thunderbolt 4 ports, while M4 Pro and Pro Max variants will feature Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, offering doubled bandwidth.
The 2026 release would mark the MacBook Pro’s 20th anniversary, as the original model debuted in 2006. Since then, Apple has progressively refined the laptop’s design and has seen transition from Intel Core processor to indigenous M series of chips
