GIRLS GOLF

WIAA State Tournament

MADISON – Divine Savior Holy Angels repeated as Division 1 state champion, while Edgewood won the Division 2 state title at University Ridge Golf Course.

DSHA shot a 637 team total to finish 29 shots ahead of Prescott, which won the last four state titles in Division 2 but moved up to Division 1 this year because of the WIAA’s competitive balance initiative.

Kaukauna shot 693 and finished in seventh place, while Bay Port shot 710 and placed ninth.

McKenna Nelson of Beaver Dam/Wayland, who shot a tournament-record 65 in Monday’s first round, shot 73 in the second round to tie with Payton Haugen of Brookfield East. Haugen shot 70 in the second round to both finish at 138.

Nelson then beat Haugen on the first playoff for the title, when Nelson made par and Haugen made bogey.

Charlie Clinefelter of Kaukauna finished in 10th place with a two-day total of 159.

Emma Cunningham of Green Bay Preble tied for 11th with a 160.

Edgewood shot a 756 total to win Division 2 by four strokes over Spooner. It was the 16th WIAA state title for the Crusaders but the first since 2019.

Seymour shot 793 and finished fourth, while Freedom shot 865 and placed sixth.

Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound won the individual title in Division 2 with a 153 to repeat as champion.

Morgan Lewis of Seymour placed ninth with a 183. Taylor Miller of Oconto Falls finished 10th with a 185.

BOYS SOCCER

Fox Valley Lutheran 7, Freedom 0

FREEDOM – The Foxes scored three times in the first half and four more in the final 40 minutes and cruised to the North Eastern Conference win.

Kaleb Williams led the Foxes with three goals and an assist, while Joonyong Hong and Marti Hostalot Heredia added one goal and one assist each. Also scoring goals for FVL were Noah Selle and Emiliano Guzman.

J.J. Minzlaff and Ezra Schaser added two assists each.

Keaton Enter made five saves in net for the Foxes.

Marinette 2, Wrightstown 1

MARINETTE – Trevin Smerchek and Kaden Ducane scored goals to put the Marines up 2-0 in the first half and Marinette held on from there for the North Eastern Conference win.

Liam Clochesy and Damien Winterbottom added assists for the Marines.

Alec Timber made three saves in net for Marinette.

Hortonville 6, Waupaca 0

HORTONVILLE – The Polar Bears got two goals from Dylan Glad and two assists from Derek Adamson in the win over the Comets.

Elliot Vedder and Noah Rindt each had a goal and an assist for Hortonville. Roman Glad and Eli Shattuck also scored, while Cade Mansfield had an assist.

Polar Bears goalie David Grasse made four saves.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Kimberly 3, Appleton East 2

APPLETON – The Papermakers defeated the Patriots, coming from behind to win in five sets 25-14, 21-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-12.

Owen Krause had 18 kills, 11 digs and four aces for Kimberly. Blake Zielinski had a team-high 49 assists. Michael Janssen had 14 kills, Jack Hruzek had 17 digs, and Alex Krause had seven kills and six aces.

Kimberly improves to 6-0 in the Fox Valley Association and 30-5 overall.

Appleton North 3, Green Bay Notre Dame 0

GREEN BAY – The Lightning earned a 25-12, 25-17, 25-11 win in Fox Valley Association action.

North leaders included Nathan Ramus with 14 kills, Sam Kuehl with nine kills, Howie Guilbeault with five kills, Owen Tierney with five kills and Landon Kue with 19 digs.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Xavier 3, New London 0

APPLETON – The Hawks defeated the Bulldogs 25-14, 25-10, 25-10 to improve to 7-0 in the Bay Conference and win the league title outright.

Sydney Neilitz led Xavier in assists with 31. Madison Daley had a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Ali Tylinski had 12 kills and seven digs, while Elle Downs and Jenna Bunks had seven and six kills, respectively. Bella Velasquez had six assists and five digs.

St. Mary Catholic 3, Lourdes Academy 2

OSHKOSH – The Zephyrs outlasted the Knights 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-10 in nonconference action.

The Zephyrs were led by Autumn Crowe with 14 kills, Eliana Brenn with 11 kills, Sammi Weiss with 18 assists and Ava Rankin with 15 digs.
