Armed burglary spree targets several St. Louis-area business, teen charged

ST. LOUIS – A teenager faces felony charges in a series of burglaries that targeted St. Louis city and county business, primarily in April.

Prosecutors with the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office have charged Mekel Walker, 18, with five counts of stealing, eight counts of first-degree burglary and six counts of first-degree property damage. All but two offenses were classified as felonies.

Walker is accused in a series of burglaries on April 27, April 28 and June 11 in St. Louis City and St. Louis County while “armed with firearms” and acting with others, according to court documents obtained by FOX 2.

The group allegedly stole $750 in cash or merchandise from at least five businesses between April 27 and 28, including four businesses on Delmar Boulevard. The group reportedly tried to use a crowbar to pry open doors at one business unsuccessfully and shattered windows to enter and steal from several others. Surveillance cameras captured all of the reported incidents.

On June 11, Walker and others broke windows at two more businesses in the City of St. Louis, taking off with over $750 in cash or merchandise from both businesses.

A warrant has been requested for Walker’s arrest and a judge has ordered no bond upon arrest. Court documents have not indicated whether he is behind bars.

To this point, prosecutors have not issued charges to Walker in St. Louis County nor anyone else suspected in the burglary spree, per Missouri court records.
