Art scene: Dance documentary auditions and lots of theater performances in August







‘The Dance’ auditions

The Cangelosi Dance Project, in association with Movee Media, will host auditions for a pilot episode for the documentary series, “The Dance,” from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Cangelosi studio 3749 Perkins Road.

The first episode will follow three individuals on their journeys toward become professional dancers. Candidates must be between ages 8 and 18. Email your curriculum vitae, or CV, and and a paragraph explaining why you would be a good fit for the show to cangelosidp@gmail.com. You will be contacted with an audition time and additional information.

‘Evangeline’ tickets

Tickets are on sale for ‘Evangeline the Musical’ in concert at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22-24 and 2 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.

Concerts with Candles

Tickets are on sale for the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra’s next Concerts with Candles, “Beethoven meets Beyonce” at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on both Aug. 14-15, in the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center, 233 St. Ferdinand St.

‘Wild.’ at Glassell 

The LSU School of Art’s Juried Summer Contemporary Exhibition, ‘Wild.’, runs through Aug. 24, in LSU’s Glassell Gallery in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.

Taking an expansive approach to wild, wildness, and wilderness, Glassell Gallery invited contemporary local and regional artists and culture bearers to submit work that embraces radical imagination and radical noticing of both the wild within us and the wild that surrounds us. The exhibition was juried by artist and Xavier Professor of Art Ron Bechet.

A free, closing reception and awards presentation is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 24, where Bechet will present awards, including a $500 prize, at 7 p.m.

‘Newsies’ tickets
