As shown by a Broadway-star-driven concert, Wilmington is rich in holiday entertainment
Christmas came a week early for a well-dressed Wilmington crowd Wednesday night.
Grammy-winning, Tony-nominated Broadway performer NaTasha Yvette Williams, a native of Fayetteville, brought down the house with a concert of seasonal songs at the Cameron Art Museum, using her world-class voice to deliver soul-stirring renditions of “O Holy Night,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and even an a cappella take on the Johnny Mercer/Hoagy Carmichael classic “Skylark.”
Williams, who was in Wilmington earlier this year to act in “Death of a Salesman” at Thalian Hall, came down from New York, where she’s in “Chicago” on Broadway, for the concert. She was accompanied on piano by Ray Kennedy, who organized the show. The singer said Wilmington is like “a second home” to her.
Even if you missed out last night, there’s still plenty more Christmas entertainment to come this weekend, as you’ll see below.
Weekend weather outlook
On the one hand, it’s going to be cold. On the other hand, it’ll feel like Christmas. Highs will struggle to hit 50 on Saturday and Sunday, with sunny skies and lows in the 20s.
Go | See | Do
If you’ve somehow missed out on the dozens of seasonal events in the Port City so far this month, this weekend marks your last chance to get into the spirit before the big day on Dec. 25.
Thalian Hall’s got two holiday plays, including the snow-tacular “White Christmas” on the main stage; the Bellamy Mansion will be lit to the nines for a big open house; and last weekend’s holiday drone show returns for another go-round downtown.
