Asheville’s hottest sports leagues to join this summer – The City of Asheville

Don’t miss out! Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) has incredible sports leagues and fitness activities for adults, teens, and kids of all skill levels this summer.

APR sports are safe, welcoming, and organized with experienced, impartial referees and umpires where the focus is on building community through healthy competition. If you’re interested in getting paid to ref, email zstewart@ashevillenc.gov or call (828) 545-1644.

 

Adult Athletics

Asheville Adult Sports Leagues

Over 35 Men’s Softball, $40 per player

Registration ends Junes 17, games played Wednesday from July 10-August 7

Teams play one game each week at Crump Shiloh Center followed by a single elimination playoff to decide league champions.

 

Pickleball Doubles, $25 per team

Registration ends June 24, men play Tuesday and women play Thursday from July 16-August 15

Play in 3.0 and 3.5 divisions on outdoor courts at Murphy-Oakley Center.

 

Co-ed Softball, $400 per team

Registration opens July 9, games played Thursday beginning August 15 

Upper/Middle and Lower divisions play at Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Crump Shiloh Center.

 

Co-ed Over 40 Basketball, $60 per player

Registration opens July 9, games played Tuesday from August 20-October 8 

Players placed on teams based on height, position, and skill level for games at Crump Shiloh Center.

 

Men’s Softball, $600 per team

Registration opens July 9, games played Monday and Wednesday starting August 26

Play in Upper/Middle and Lower divisions at Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Crump Shiloh Center.

 

Clinics & Special Events

Tennis Clinic, $25 per person for two-week session (meets twice each week)

Registration opens June 17, clinics held each Tuesday and Thursday from July 9-18 from 9:30-11am

Instructional clinics for beginners and intermediate players teach the basics and build on skills in each class on outdoor courts at Murphy-Oakley Center.

FitVerse, $15 per person

Registration ends July 12, meets on August 2 and August 16 from 7-8pm

Tap into your adventurous side with the VZfit virtual reality fitness routine at Avery Montford Center. Possibilities are limitless from boarding through the Alps or biking from Maine to California. For more info, contact Seth Jackson at sjackson@ashevillenc.gov or (828) 253-3714.

 

Adult Kickball & Picnic, $10 per person

Registration ends July 29, game and picnic on August 4 from 1-3pm

Asheville Youth Sports Leagues

Teen Basketball, $15 per player

Registration ends June 17, teams practice and/or play games once or twice each week on Tuesday and Thursday from June 18-August 8

All talent levels welcome in this league dedicated to building skills and developing confidence at Crump Shiloh Center.

 

Fall Baseball & T-ball, $25-$50 per player

Registration ends August 1, teams practice once or twice each week beginning August 12 with games from September 5-October 12

Leagues focused on fundamentals of baseball and teamwork.

 

Clinics & Special Events

Let’s Wrestle, $15 per person for four-week session (meets three times each week)

Sign up for one session (June 10-July 12 or July 15-August 16) by start date, class meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Teen Basketball Skills, Free

Register by start date, clinics meet on June 15 and July 13

Open Gym

Outdoor Summer Skate Nights, Free (rental skates available for $3)

Jam to the music on the outdoor rink in Carrier Park on the first and fourth Friday of the month.

Fitness Centers

Community members can sign up online or at any community center to receive a fitness center key fob that can be scanned at Crump Shiloh Center and Stephens-Lee Center for access to cardio equipment, exercise machines, and free weights.

High school students and adults ages 60 and over receive free annual passes. For those outside of these groups, annual memberships are just $50 for Asheville residents or $75 for a family of up to four people. For more info,
