ASU football success leads to increased business, season ticket sales
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — While Arizona State University lost in the Peach Bowl Wednesday to Texas, the 11-win season was a massive success in Kenny Dillingham’s second year as head coach.
After some down years and NCAA sanctions, ASU fans are hopeful this season represents what’s to come.
The Sun Devil Tickets account said on X that 300 people signed up for 2025 season tickets Wednesday alone.
Since they went on sale in November, more than 3,100 fans have bought season tickets.
“We have to buy season tickets. If it continues on this trajectory which it looks like its going to, there’s going to be a lot more games like that in the future and we don’t want to miss out on it,” ASU Alum Jared Brandt said.
Brandt had ASU season tickets for about ten years and dropped them during COVID and the few down seasons after that. He said he saw enough from the team this year and believes in the coaches enough to get back into owning tickets to every home game next year.
“People are excited, there is a lot to be excited about and excitement you want to be part of something you’re going to need season tickets because they’re going to get really expensive,” Brandt said. “It’ll be hard to get which is awesome. That’s what everyone should want.”
More fans at the home games means more business for the shops and restaurants around Mill Avenue in Tempe.
Cactus Sports owner Troy Scoma says the year started off slow, but fan interest hit the roof by mid-November.
“The Wednesday before the BYU game, that bandwagon was getting full. Then things started changing. That is a benchmark day for us,” Scoma said.
Scoma says the past six weeks were the busiest he has ever seen his store.
“You can’t compare this to anything. Opening the door to 35 or 45 people.”
While he is excited about the recent business boom, Scoma seems most excited about Sun Devil Football’s return to the national stage.
While losing in the College Football Playoff, he thinks this is the start of a great era for the football program.
“This is going to do wonders for the program for recruiting and for transfers. We can realistically expect nine and ten and possibly eleven win seasons happening a lot more frequently.”
