Denise Austin is a pro at inspiring women of all ages to live healthy lifestyles with her practical wellness tips and effective “#FitOver50” workout videos. The fitness icon knows many of us struggle with our fitness goals around the holidays, and she’s here to help. That’s why she’s sharing some post-Thanksgiving workout motivation to encourage her followers to stay on track, no matter the season.
“Who could use a little extra motivation today??” Austin captioned her video. “The Monday after a fun-filled Thanksgiving weekend is the perfect time to reset and jump right back into your healthy habits…forget what you ate over the weekend, or how you skipped a workout—just get back to it today and you will feel refreshed and like yourself in no time!! Do this workout with me to get your day jump-started!!”
“Let’s get started,” Austin says at the beginning of the video before jumping right into the first exercise.
She begins by standing with her feet wide on her mat, a slight bend in her knees, and her arms up with her fists at chin level. “Stay low, think about having your arms up, you’re ready, pull in your abs, strong back,” she says before adding side steps. “Hold it right here and lunge side to side using your inner and outer thighs.” Next, she adds “a punch to the side” for “a little kickboxing” element to engage the upper and lower body. “Just cross it over, punch it back, protect that beautiful face,” she explains. “We’re keeping it all low-impact! Yes, easy on the joints, but we’re really working out. Hold it strong, you can do it.”
After finishing the first move, Austin goes right into the second exercise by facing the front of her mat and bringing her feet hip-width apart with her arms in the same position as before. “Now hold it right here and kick it back,” she says as she bends her knees and sends one leg toward the back of the room along with her arms. “Really kick! It’s a lunge down, almost like a squat, and it’s a kickback.” She encourages her followers to “squeeze” the glutes through the movement and “push through your heel” to reap the full benefits.
