AtriCure announces HQ expansion, adding jobs in Mason

Medical device-maker AtriCure announced Thursday it will nearly double the size of its headquarters in Mason and hire hundreds of new workers with the help of tax incentives.

The multi-year plan will boost the company’s research, development and manufacturing capabilities. AtriCure plans to expand its current Mason campus with up to 120,000 square feet of new laboratory, R&D, office and advanced manufacturing space.

Currently, AtriCure has more than 180,000 square feet of offices, warehouse space and manufacturing facilities in Mason, according to its annual report. The company also employs 1,200 worldwide, including 470 in Mason.

AtriCure is getting an estimated $13.3 million in tax credits over 12 years, according to the Ohio Department of Development. State officials said the deal will add 400 jobs and nearly $55 million in payroll on top of the current $58 million that already exists.

“We are thrilled to continue our expansion in Mason, Ohio,” AtriCure CEO Michael Carrel said in a statement. “This project underscores continued growth as we pursue our commitment to reaching more patients, reinforces our connection to the community.”

AtriCure moved to Mason in 2015 and this is the fourth expansion of its local footprint.

Local officials cheered the expansion.

“The city has worked hard to secure this pivotal investment,” Mayor Diana Nelson said in a statement. “As an anchor in Mason’s I-71 Innovation Corridor, AtriCure is paving the way for science growth and advancement to benefit the city, the region and the entire state.”
