Ayo Edebiri’s Sequin Gown Welcomes Fun Fashion Back to Awards Season
Ayo Edebiri’s style evolution this year is something to admire. Over the last few months, she’s stepped out in structured looks from Thom Browne, as well as various whimsical designs from Loewe, even becoming part of the latter’s campaign. It’s no wonder the actor was named a red-carpet star by Harper’s Bazaar.
And though her archive of past looks is impressive, Edebiri once again proved she was worthy of being red-carpet royalty. Last night at W Magazine’s Annual Best Performances Party, she stepped out in a purple sequin gown, leaving a shimmering impression on her fellow attendees. Rather than reach for a hot-off-the-runway piece (as she has before), the actor (with the help of stylist Danielle Goldberg) pulled her ensemble from Comme des Garçons fall 2012 collection, sourcing the style from Callen Archive.
In line with the quirky silhouettes she’s worn previously, her dress featured an exaggerated hem and hips, almost as if she had been vacuum-sealed into her outfit. She complemented the glittering lavender gown with a pointed pair of black patent pumps, as well as a small black version of Loewe’s Puzzle bag.
To further balance out her playful outfit, Edebiri wore her hair in a retro-inspired bob with flipped ends. A hint of sparkling eyeshadow brought her look full-circle, as did a matching iridescent manicure. A satin nude lipstick topped it all off.
The Emmy-winning star of The Bear later spent time with her co-stars, posing with Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Matty Matheson, Ricky Staffieri, and Lionel Boyce. Though Edebiri was certainly the best dressed out of all of them, Matheson did showcase his personal style with a seasonal furry hat.
