‘Bad Sisters’ will return for season 2 this fall — Here’s how the story continues

The Garvey girls are back! It’s been nearly two years since Bad Sisters finished its lauded and darkly comic first season on Apple TV+, and now it returns Big Little Lies style for season 2 this fall.

Releasing a first-look image of the Garvey sisters back together — Sharon Horgan as Eva, Anne-Marie Duff as Grace, Eva Birthistle as Ursula, Sarah Greene as Bibi, and Eve Hewson as Becka — Apple announced Bad Sisters season 2 will premiere two episodes of the eight-episode run on Wednesday, Nov. 13, before shifting to a one-episode weekly release every Wednesday through Dec. 25.

Fans of the series may be wondering how the new season will continue the story. Season 1 introduced the Garveys as they prepared for the funeral of Grace’s abusive husband John Paul (Claes Bang). When life insurer Thomas Claffin (Brian Gleeson) and his brother Matt (Daryl McCormack) set out to prove malicious intent in an effort to avoid paying out Grace’s policy, a series of flashbacks slowly reveal that each of the five sisters had a very personal reason for wanting John Paul dead.

Season 2 now picks up two years after the sisters have seemingly moved on from the incident unscathed, but, according to a new logline, “when past truths resurface, the ladies are thrust back into the spotlight, suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed, and the sisters are forced to work out who they can trust.”

Returning from season 1 are McCormack as Matt Claffin, who ended up falling in love with Becka; Barry Ward as Inspector Fergal Loftus; Michael Smiley as Roger Muldoon, Grace’s kind-hearted next-door neighbor; Saise Quinn as Grace’s daughter Blanaid; Yasmine Akram as Bibi’s wife Nora; Jonjo O’Neill as Ursula’s husband Donal Flynn; and Peter Claffey (now blowing up for landing the lead in Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) as Becka’s ex Callum.

And joining the cast for the first time in season 2 are Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Harry Potter), Owen McDonnell (True Detective: Night Country, Great Expectations), Thaddea Graham (Sex Education, Doctor Who), Deirdre Mullins (Shadow and Bone), Lorcan Cranitch (The Crown), Liz Fitzgibbon (Normal People), and Justine Mitchell (Conversations With Friends, Derry Girls).

Horgan wrote Bad Sisters season 1 with Dave Finkel and Brett Baer, adapted from the Belgian show Clan, which was created by Malin-Sarah Gozin.

“If you’d have told me three years ago that I’d be making a series about five murderous sisters chasing a man around Ireland trying to kill him, I’d have said, ‘Yeah, that sounds about right,’” Horgan said in a 2022 statement pegged to the season 2 renewal. “The response to our show has been beyond what we could have hoped for. It gave us the opportunity to shine a light on stories that don’t always get such a global platform. I look forward to getting chilly in the Irish Sea one more time.”
