Barcelona creative ace names former Barça duo as his idols
Dani Olmo was the only major signing for Barcelona this past summer, as he joined the club on a big-money move from RB Leipzig.
Olmo hasn’t disappointed either, settling in seamlessly under the leadership of Hansi Flick and becoming a useful creative outlet for the club.
Olmo has racked up five goals in eight competitive matches so far, with all of the goals coming in La Liga.
The Spaniard’s early transition to Barcelona can be attributed to the fact that he was formerly a part of the La Masia setup. The player even has a photo with Lionel Messi when he was young.
Olmo names Messi, and Iniesta as idols
Olmo recalled that photo from a recent interaction where the Barcelona playmaker named Messi one of his idols.
When asked about his idols, Olmo said (h/t FCB World), “Messi, that famous photo that a lot of people have seen and it’s the one I remember the most and the one that I idolise.”
Olmo has never had the opportunity to share the pitch with Messi. But he was a part of Barcelona’s youth setup when the Argentine was at the peak of his game.
The Spaniard went on to list Diego Forlan and recently retired Barcelona great Andres Iniesta as his other idols.
“I also loved Diego Forlan a lot when I was young because we had the same haircut, but also Messi and Iniesta were two special figures for me,” he added.
Olmo’s statement came on the back of his stellar performance for Spain in the UEFA Nations League, where he bagged an assist against Denmark.
