Barcelona offer fitness updates on Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia after Sevilla win
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick offered updates on Eric Garcia and Frenkie de Jong after Sunday’s win over Sevilla.
Eric missed the game after picking up an issue during the warm-up. He was initially named in the starting XI but dropped out to be replaced by Ansu Fati.
Meanwhile, De Jong did not feature at all, with Flick having admitted before the match he’d felt something in training ahead of the game.
The Barca boss spoke about both players after the win and seemed fairly positive.
“We thought Frenkie could start, but he felt some discomfort. To begin with, he wasn’t an option. Eric had some problems, but I hope he can be an option for Wednesday,” he told reporters.
Flick was pushed further on De Jong and hinted he could play against Bayern on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
“He is not injured. He could have played today, but we decided to bring Gavi in. We think it was a good decision. He could have played today and he will be able to play on Wednesday,” he added.
Diario AS are reporting that Eric won’t play against Bayern but is expected to be fit for the Clasico on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
