Barcelona on high alert: Veteran’s fitness under observation after injury scare against Scotland

Barcelona will be closely monitoring Robert Lewandowski’s fitness ahead of Poland’s upcoming Nations League match against Croatia, claims a report from Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona’s medical team is already managing several injury concerns, including Fermin Lopez’s muscle strain, Dani Olmo’s knee issue, and worries about rough play affecting Lamine Yamal. 

However, Lewandowski’s physical condition is of particular importance to the club, given his crucial role in the team. 

At 36 years old, the forward is expected to play a significant number of matches for Barcelona, especially since there is no direct replacement for him in the squad unless Ansu Fati recovers fully from his injury.

A knock agianst Scotland

Last Thursday, Lewandowski’s performance in Poland’s 3-2 victory over Scotland raised some alarms. After scoring the opening goal and converting a penalty to make it 0-2, he requested a substitution in the 72nd minute. 

His decision was unexpected as he appeared to be in good form, but Lewandowski later revealed that he was feeling discomfort. He chose to come off to avoid risking a more serious injury, considering the long season ahead.

“I felt some discomfort, and then the pain set in. I realised that if I pushed through, it could lead to more severe issues in the future. 

“For the sake of my health and the team, I decided it was best to leave the field. This season is going to be very demanding, with potentially up to 70 games ahead. 

“It’s crucial to manage my strength and energy wisely,” Lewandowski explained after the match against Scotland.

This Sunday, Lewandowski is set to face another challenging test as Poland take on Croatia in the Nations League at the Opus Arena. Despite his recent discomfort, it is expected that he will start the match.
