Barry McGuire inspires at Simpson University with faith-driven business success

Thursday afternoon’s annual Simpson University business leadership lunch resembled a revival. This year’s speaker was Barry McGuire of McGuire’s Car Care Products.

McGuire grew up in a devout Christian family for generations, and that influenced his entire life. Now, the 82-year-old is spending his time trying to influence others. He said his faith has guided him to take a small business and grow it into an international corporation.

“I had a tiny little business. We were doing $600,000 a year, I was buffing cars in filthy dirty garages, and God encouraged me to go retail. I didn’t know anything about retail. I said, ‘God, I’m just going to trust you in my heart because I don’t have any interest; I don’t have a clue what I’m doing.’ But the key to it was I saw my business by business and God is by God, and more importantly, I want to honor God. As I’ve honored God and shared my love for God, His love for me has done the impossible. Now, the number one brand of car wax in America and most countries around the world,” said McGuire.

In keeping with the spirit of car care, there was a show and shine outside before the luncheon, giving guests and students a chance to enjoy some classic cars, while McGuire enjoyed Redding.

“Simpson University, what a great place. I’ve not been here before, so last night and today… I’m hooked. I’m hooked with Redding. What a beautiful life. This weather—every day where I’ve been all my life. So I’m going to come back,” McGuire said.

Simpson has been hosting the business leadership luncheons for more than 20 years.
