Bartholomew County Historical Society opens new fashion exhibit
COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Historical Society hosts the grand opening of its new exhibit, “Out of the Wardrobe: The Clothing of Bartholomew County’s Past” this Thursday, August 1, at 6:30 p.m. BCHS also has a new art installation by Chris Newlund.
The expansive exhibit on clothing through the ages features nearly 70 garments spanning 160 years of carefully curated clothing articles. This exhibition offers a comprehensive journey through Bartholomew County’s fashion history. Each garment tells a unique story of its wearer and the societal context in which it was worn.
In addition, the historical society’s downstairs and upstairs galleries have examples of local United States military uniforms, Roaring 1920s garb, post-war fashion changes, and semi-modern pieces.
Whether you’re a fashion enthusiast, a history buff, or simply curious about the county’s past, the exhibit offers a rich tapestry of Bartholomew County’s sartorial history waiting to be explored.
