Baton Rouge business feeds dozens on Christmas

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – In the spirit of giving this Christmas, one Baton Rouge area business is going out of its way to feed dozens in the community—a reminder of what this holiday is all about.

Regina Williams, the owner of Kevin’s Kitchen, said sometimes it’s better to give than receive.

“I want everybody to do nice for somebody today,” Williams said. “Do something for God today. So, if you feel it in your heart to do it, do it.”

Williams, along with her friend Tonya, served hot meals for the community on Florida Street.

”I’m serving red beans with smoked sausage, rice, sweet potatoes, mustard greens, corn bread and a drink,” Williams said.

Folks left with happy faces and even happier bellies.

This year, Williams opened Kevin’s Kitchen, which is named after her son. When her mom passed this December, she decided it was time to give back to the community.

”And I stayed up until like 2 o’clock this morning cooking,” Williams said. “I was just smiling the whole time because I knew it would be good for somebody who needs something hot to eat on Christmas.”

Next year, she is hoping to get more volunteers to feed even more people. For Williams, it’s a labor of love.

”Twenty-five is the year to start sharing love and not hate,” Williams said. “We want to love each other; we want more love in the world, that’s what I pray for.”
