‘Beauty and Babes’ fashion show supports families dealing with loss
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Losing a child is challenging, no matter what, but it’s made easier when you have a support system there for you.
On Saturday night, the Oaklyn Foundation hosted its fourth annual “Beauty and Babes” fashion show to raise money for those experiencing the loss of a child.
The show featured mothers who have lost a child wearing clothing from local boutiques.
“To be with other moms that have lost and to be with angel moms, which is what I call all of us, is encouraging. It’s hard doing Mother’s Day. Mom is a hard word to recognize sometimes for yourself, but it is also so special,” said said Kara Acevedo a member of the Oaklyn Foundation’s board of directors.
“When we booked this Beauty and Babes for this weekend, I did think it is going to be hard for these moms to come together and be happy and celebrate on Mother’s Day weekend. But then I was like, ‘No.’ I feel like it’s okay to still celebrate what Mother’s Day is because even though they do not have a child here, they are still a mother. Even though they don’t have a child here on Earth, they still have one in heaven,” said Oaklyn Foundation founder Jessica Remme.
The Oaklyn Foundation’s mission is to walk alongside families after a loss and offer support.
Next year’s Beauty and Babes show will happen on May 3.
